Elina Varpa, who graduates this year, was selected from a shortlist of applications drawn up by the university and forwarded to W&O Events, which then interviewed four candidates from the Event Management and Marketing Masters course for the account executive position.

The scheme was developed as a result of London Metropolitan’s desire to embed industry contacts into the curriculum, while providing access to short or long-term work experience for students.

Varpa, who will undertake a paid one-year internship, said: "Since finishing my taught studies I have submitted job applications without success and this was beginning to affect my confidence. I think the Partners in Employment scheme provides students with an excellent launch-pad for work.

W&O Events managing director Sallie Coventry added: "We believe that it is important for businesses such as W&O Events to engage actively with the educational establishment to help foster talent for the future of our industry."
