The conference centres in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Stuttgart welcomed 250,000 medical delegates last year, which in turn contributed approximately £213 million to the country's economy.
Berlin International Congress Centre staged 51 medical events in 2011, while Hamburg hosted 18, including the World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders and the European Cystic Fibrosis Conference. Cologne welcomed 15 meetings for the medical profession and Dusseldorf, 12.
ICC Stuttgart is predicting an increase in the number of medical congresses it will host in 2012, while ICC Munich will this year open its doors a third time to the European Society of Cardiology, which attracts more than 30,000 participants.
Congress Center Hamburg managing director Edgar Hirt said: "Because Germany is one of the leading C&I destinations in the world, congress organisers from the fields of science and technology have every reason to plan events here."
