Sullens said that 2012 is a chance for the industy to showcase its many qualities. "In my mind, we have a world-beating industry here, and International Confex will once again reflect the qualities of our destinations, venues, services and production," he added.

He said that pre-booked meetings at the show and the popularity of its loyalty programme gave him confidence the show will be a success.

He added: "We’re looking at two themes for 2012 - delivery and legacy. I believe our educational programme is more focused than ever before, we have specialised agendas for association buyers, PAs and the content has been curated to give forums to share best practice and improve knowledge so our industry can be at its very best during 2012."

Sullens also commented on the industry's role in ensuring the Olympics creates a legacy for London: "This industry will play a major part in delivering the legacy for the Games and continue to attract the very best events in the years post 2012. Our educational programme also looks to provide forums and discussion, led by some of the leading voices from the games, on how our industry can fully realise the potential of the Games."
