Pre-event planning: After using the Parc Hotel in Cardiff in 2010, Admiral Insurance chose to rebook the venue for its annual celebration, which is held for employees at its Cardiff and Newport offices who have been at the company for longer than ten years. Delegates comprised 42 members of staff, plus senior managers.
"The Parc worked so well before that we decided to use it for a second year running," says Admiral Insurance communications officer Natalie Grimshare. "It's a really nice get-together for our long-serving staff and a chance for our senior managers to say thank you. After the lunch and drinks we give the staff the rest of the day off to enjoy themselves."
Challenges: Grimshare says that, as the venue was tried and tested, there were no major challenges but price was a factor. However, she did visit some others as possible options.
Solution: Although Grimshare was impressed with the other venues on offer, she says the Parc Hotel was very competitive on price and was already proven to be well loved.
A set lunch option was chosen, with a drinks reception to welcome staff beforehand. Held in the hotel's Duchess Suite, lunch was followed by a video presentation featuring company highlights from the past ten years, along with speeches from management and anecdotes from members of staff about their experiences over the decade.
Post-event analysis: Grimshare says that no formal event analysis was conducted, but the feedback from staff was excellent. "Once again, the venue went down very well and we have booked it for next year's event. We have also booked several ad hoc meetings at the hotel," she adds.
