The centre will not hit its original target of hosting 370 events in its first year, said business development director Trevor McCartney, as some events booked in will be held over several days.

However, he added that operationally it is better to host events that take place over more days.

Events set to take place at the QNCC will include the 20th World Petroleum Congress for 5,000 delegates from 4-8 December.

The site will also offer two hotels, with the first set to open by 2013.

QNCC´s key stats:

52 meeting rooms

300-seat theatre

Three auditoria

4,000 – capacity of its multipurpose conference hall

40,000m2 exhibition space
