Corbin Ball, owner of Corbin Ball Associates, said that many conference organisers aren;t aware of the potential improvement to the delegate experience from tablet and mobile phone applications.

"There is a lot of activity in the app creation area, helping bring the entire event to a delegate without paper, creating a paperless conference binder. Some more advanced offerings include audience participation software and polling possibilities," he added.

The panel discussed the possibilities for online registration and delegate engagement through applications.

Later, the use of social media was discussed, with the experts concluding that feedback, even if it is negative, is valuable as it allows event organisers to respond and react.
