Speaking at EIBTM in Barcelona, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau president Akapol Sorasuchart said that disruption to the C&I market was minimal and revealed that European C&I visits to Thailand rose from 79,797 in 2010 to 90,720 this year.

"The flooding and political tension led to a few events being postponed, but not many were cancelled. The pictures in the media showed flooded airports, but our international airports were not affected," he added.

In the fiscal year 2011, which ended 30 September, Thailand's C&I sector attracted 720,000 business travellers and generated 57.6 billion baht (£1.8bn) in revenue, compared respectively to 679,585 travellers and 55 billion baht in fiscal 2010.

Sorasuchart added: "These figures would have been higher overall if the euro and dollar was not hit."
