Pre-event planning: Whisky and premium gin company Chivas Brothers decided to work with Maximillion on its away day following successful events delivered by the agency in previous years. Maximillion was asked for ideas for two team-building activities for the finance, IT and legal teams. Key objectives were to include a light-hearted team-based competition where delegates could bond as a team, feel rewarded and get to know each other outside of the workplace.

Challenges: Maximillion has run Chivas Brothers' annual event for eight years, so needed to find a new format, as well as activities that would be appeal to a wide profile of guests. The agency also had to ensure that outdoor activities could fit into the grounds at Mar Hall.

Solution: A company strategy meeting took place in the morning, which included an 'eco-fashion' team activity with a fashion-themed quiz where points were exchanged for recycled materials the teams could use to create unusual outfits for a catwalk finale. Following lunch, guests took part in Checkpoint Challenge, which involved a treasure hunt around Mar Hall. Teams navigated from one checkpoint to another, where they completed activities such as an inflatable assault course, gladiator joust, archery and human table football.

Post-event analysis: "We had a fantastic team-building day and who would have thought that a bunch of accountants could create outfits that would not have looked out of place at Paris Fashion week?" says Chivas head of business analysis Gordon Thomson. "Maximillion ran the event brilliantly."
