Starwood debuts Aloft in the UK with Excel opening

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has opened its first Aloft branded-property in the UK, the 252-room Aloft London Excel.

The Aloft London Excel, which opened on Monday (31 October), was developed by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), which owns Excel London and the ICC London Excel venues.

Julia Harnischfeger was been appointed hotel manager at Aloft London Excel. She has been working with Starwood Hotels and Resorts since 2007 and became director of operational innovation for the group’s hotels in England in 2009.

"The launch of Aloft in the UK underscores the strength of the Starwood network and the power of the Aloft brand," said Brian McGuinness, senior vice president, speciality select brands for Starwood. "Aloft's emphasis on high design combined with its tech-savvy features and social atmosphere all at an affordable price point translates globally and is
attracting a growing group of loyal travellers. Aloft's international expansion so early in the brand's life cycle is unprecedented."

Aloft London Excel features public spaces with pool and laptop areas. The spacious guest rooms feature 42" televisions and three metre high ceilings.
