Pell joins the exhibition centre from Westfield Shoppingtowns UK, where over the last five years he has been responsible for seven of the group’s UK Westfield shopping centres.

Pell will oversee a staff of 2,000 at the NEC, which attracts more than 2.1 million visitors a year and hosts around 138 trade and consumer shows. He will oversee a range of services including event management, security, traffic, cleaning, maintenance, rigging and engineering services.

Pell said: "Having managed operations at several of Europe’s largest shopping centres – including Westfield London, Derby and Merry Hill – I’m delighted to be joining the country’s leading exhibition and live events venue, at what is a really exciting time for the business.

"With the £120 million investment in Resorts World at the NEC soon to be taking shape, I’m really looking forward to being part of the team on the journey to delivering ‘Destination NEC’."

Meanwhile, the NEC has bolstered its sales team with the appointment of Louise Hankinson as conference account manager. She joins from the Belfry Hotel and Golf Club, where she was a senior sales executive for three years.
