Pre-planning: Corby-based weight management company Cambridge Weight Plan holds an annual international distributors conference, with delegates attending from the UK and abroad. The aim is to give delegates company updates, discuss future plans and share ideas, as well as providing networking opportunities. Last year, the event was held in Dubai and this year Cyprus was chosen for the five-day event. It worked with agency Bright Sky Events and DMC CPC Events to research potential venues and activities.
Challenge: The group wanted to hold a dinner at the ruins and museum of Aphrodite's Temple, a major tourist attraction that dates from the 12th century BC, and which involved liaising with the Cyprus Department of Antiquities.
Solution: Ahead of the event, Bright Sky Events met with Cyprus Tourism Organisation at Confex in London, to get advice. Delegates arrived in Cyprus at various times on the Saturday and Sunday and met that evening for a welcome dinner at the Columbia Beach Resort. A full-day conference was held on the Monday, with a tour of the museum at Aphrodite's Temple, followed by dinner and music. The venue had been secured on an exclusive basis. A half-day conference was held on Tuesday, with groups taking a jeep safari in the afternoon. At the end of the safari, the group met in the village square for drinks and dinner in a local tavern.
Post-event analysis: Kerensa Preedy-Houston, PR and corporate event manager for Cambridge Weight Plan, says Cyprus was perfect for the event. "With the help of Bright Sky Events we managed to create the ideal balance of luxury, culture and festivities across both our conference and team-building activities," she says. "We really took advantage of mixing business with pleasure on this beautiful island."
