
The event is taking place on 22 September at the San Francisco Design Center. A post on Facebook's developer blog said that it would feature "some exciting product announcements that enable a new class of social apps".
Facebook's last F8 event, in April 2010, saw the unveiling of the 'Like' button.
Delegates are being sent an invitation that reads: "This all day event with Facebook engineers and product teams will feature keynotes and session tracks that highlight our new tools along with best practices for developers and partners building the next generation of social experiences."
