Ireland prepares for international congress

Delegates from 70 countries visited Dublin this week to learn how preparations for an international congress which hopes to attract an estimated 25,000 delegates per day are progressing.

Dublin was chosen as the location for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress which takes place in June 2012.

Strong interest from around the world was reported as delegates from 70 countries gathered in Dublin to hear further details of next year’s event. Around 12,000 international delegates are expected to descend on Dublin with a total of 25,000 delegates attending each day of the congress.

The RDS and Croke Park in Dublin will be the central venues for the 2012 International Eucharistic Congress. The congress is a global event which takes place in a different country every four years celebrating the central role of the Eucharist in the life of the Catholic Church. The last International Eucharistic Congress took place in Quebec City in 2008.
