Australia sees increase in convention numbers

Australia has seen a rise in the number of convention or conference arrivals in the last year.

There were 174,100 convention or conference arrivals in Australia during the year ended 30 April 2011, an increase of 13 per cent year-on-year, according to The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), which publishes short-term international arrivals to Australia on a monthly basis.   

Similarly, overall business arrivals increased 12 per cent year-on-year to 848,700, while total arrivals to Australia increased 5 per cent to 5.9 million.

There were 40,400 convention or conference arrivals during the three months ended 30 April 2011, an increase of 1 per cent year-on-year. Similarly, overall business arrivals increased 3 per cent year-on-year, while total arrivals to Australia were unchanged.  

There were 11,100 convention or conference arrivals during April 2011, a decrease of 18 per cent year-on-year. Similarly, overall business arrivals decreased 7 per cent year-on-year, while total arrivals to Australia increased 7 per cent.
