The convention bureau now has a dedicated contact, Sandra Crovetto, who is responsible for helping plan sustainable events in Monaco.

Monaco Government Tourist and Convention Authority deputy general manager Guillame Rose said: "We want to be among the leaders of green events." 

In line with the plans, The Grimaldi Forum has joined the Green Meeting Industry Council, a global community dedicated to MICE-related sustainability issues.

The ISO 14001-certified venue also reduced its energy use by 9% and water use by 38% between 2007 and 2010 as part of £260,000 three-year sustainability project. It also now  recycles 37% of its waste.

C&IT growth

Monaco’s individual MICE visitors were up 15% in 2010 compared to 2009, with 16% coming from the UK.

Speaking at Imex in Frankfurt today, Rose told C&IT the show was going well for Monaco as "luxury is not obscene any more".

He said: " Buyers get good value for money because we have maintained our standards. We are very proud of the fact 65% of people who come here for events come back."
