Harrogate International Centre (HIC) has reported a £180m economic impact for the year ending last month (April).

HIC hosted around 150 events and attracted more than 290,000 visitors in the last financial year.

Events included the Wounds UK conference, which attracted 1,300 delegates.

The Stroke Association also recently chose HIC for its annual conference for the next three years (2012-14). The event is reported to be worth £6.6m to the town over that period.

HIC’s head of sales and marketing Alison Griffin said: "As one of the largest businesses in Harrogate we would expect to have a substantial impact but this clearly demonstrates the value of events. 

"There are so many opportunities here for local business from shops and taxi companies to restaurants and bars which gain from the hundreds of thousands of visitors we bring to the town every year."

HIC is currently building two new event halls, totalling 3,300sqm, which are due to open in Autumn 2011.
