Crawford is currently deputy head of convention bureau and will replace Doheny, who is taking early retirement from September.

She joined Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley Tourist Board’s Convention Bureau in 1999 as international associations sales executive before progressing in 2001 to senior manager – international associations.

Following the dissolution of Scotland’s area tourist boards in 2004, Crawford carried out the same role within the newly formed Glasgow City Marketing Bureau until 2009 when she became deputy head of the convention bureau.

GCMB chief executive Scott Taylor said: "Following a rigorous interview process I am delighted that Aileen has been appointed as Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s new head of conventions.

"Over the last twelve years Aileen’s commitment to selling Glasgow as a conference destination has been outstanding and I know she will bring passion, drive and forward thinking to this key area of our business."

Doheny will be on secondment to the Glasgow Organising Committee until September, where she will assist in accommodating official client groups attending the games.

She will also assist in identifying a Games travel provider and select hotels to accommodate VIPs visiting the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
