Liverpool Convention Bureau and the ACC Liverpool worked with one of the city’s ambassadors, consultant liver surgeon Graeme Poston, to secure the conference on 14-16 September 2014.

The ESSO conference is expected to attract up to 800 delegates to the ACC Liverpool, and generate around £1.4m in economic benefit for the city.

A special Lord Mayor’s reception will be held for delegates travelling to Liverpool.

Liverpool Convention Bureau manager Carol O’Reilly said: "This win is a great coup for the city and a reward for our collaborative efforts in securing the event. We faced competition from capital cities including Athens, Geneva and Berlin, so we are extremely proud to have secured such a high profile conference, which underlines our international reach and expert knowledge."
