EventCity appoints new centre director

Peel Leisure's new exhibition centre at Manchester's Trafford Centre, EventCity, has announced the appointment of Andy Orr as centre director.

Orr has held management roles at the Apollo Manchester, Manchester 235 and was previously within Peel Holdings Group.

Peel Leisure says its new venture has already attracted widespread interest from across the UK exhibition industry, particularly with show organisers seeking alternative venues.

"When you consider our location, free parking and versatility of space we have a unique product," said Andy Orr. "We have only officially been open since March, but we already have confirmed bookings through to 2014. Looking ahead, our objective is to meet the challenge of positioning EventCity as the premier venue for public and private events in the North of England'.

Orr's primary responsibility is the implementation of strategic direction at the new venue, and general operational management.  The venue is aiming to deliver around 50 events per year.
