Dmitry Chernyshenko, Chief Executive and President of Sochi 2014 is vying for planning permission to turn the area around Marble Arch into an ice-rink experience called Sochi World.

Working with the Westminster 2012 Events Team, Sochi 2014 aims to introduce the city and the surrounding Krasnodar region through sport and cultural performances.

"While there will be a significant emphasis on culture, the ice-rink will highlight sporting performance," said Chernyshenko. "Russian figure-skating stars will give master classes for young British skaters, who in turn will be invited to participate in the Sochi World ice-shows."

Alongside the ice-rink arena, Sochi World will feature an interactive visitor experience and a hospitality pavilion, housed in custom-designed structures to reflect the prestige of the Marble Arch site.

"We are delighted to have this opportunity to share the best of Russian culture with the rest of the world," Chernyshenko continued. "We are grateful to Westminster City Council, with whom we will be developing further programmes of social engagement for children at Sochi World plus a long-lasting legacy, and to LOCOG for its support in helping us to realise our goal."
