Pre-event planning: Jessops is the UK's leading photography retailer. Its annual conference is a chance to motivate the stores and set clear objectives for 2011, as well as reward them for their performance last year. The event brings head office staff, store managers and the field force together with key suppliers. Brands have the chance to give updates on key future products and plans. Senior management can update the team on progress and plan for the crucial Christmas and sale periods.
Challenges: As the event combines three functions in one day it was important that the venue was flexible enough to handle all elements. Exclusive use of the venue was also important. With so many delegates attending and with most staying over for the gala dinner, accommodation was a factor in choosing a venue.
Solutions: Jessops opted for the Telford International Centre for the third year in a row. Although the company has looked at other venues, it finds the combination of flexible space and three on-site hotels hard to beat. Sean Emmett, ecommerce and marketing director at Jessops, says: "Telford is very convenient for our delegates as we have managers travelling from all over the country. The Telford International Centre is a contemporary space that can be easily adapted and is flexible enough to deliver the different elements of the day."
Agency: Posh Parties carried out the full production of the 268-delegate event. As well as presentations by Jessop directors, there were presentations by Nikon, Sony, Canon, Tamron, Panasonic, Sandisk and Samsung to smaller groups in break-out rooms. The 90 suppliers used the 503m2 Ironbridge 1 as exhibition space. In the evening, the conference space was transformed for the gala dinner and dancing.
Post-event analysis: Emmett says Jessops was thrilled with the how the day and evening went and that the conference delivered against all its objectives.FACTFILE
