Sainsbury's plans broad 2011 events programme

Sainsbury's is planning a series of events in 2011 that includes five roadshows, a conference for 4,500 and a charity ball.

The retailer is running five roadshows for a total of 2,500 managers in London, Peterborough, Bolton and Coventry across March and April.

Chief executive Justin King will outline business plans during the events, which are being held for the third year running, said Sainsbury’s director of colleague engagement Jacki Connor.

"The events work very well for us and we really make sure when we are planning a programme that we are maximising the investment we make," she said.

Sainsbury’s is also set to run its bi-annual charity ball for 800 at Old Billingsgate in June.

Around 800 employees – known as colleagues – and suppliers will attend the event, to raise money for Comic Relief.

"It is a great chance for suppliers and senior members of the team to get together," added Connor.

Meanwhile, planning is also underway for the supermarket chain’s annual conference in the autumn, which is being held at the Birmingham NEC for 4,500 delegates. Last year's annual conference had a Pride theme and included a fashion show and cook-off contest.

DRP Group will work with Sainsbury’s events team on elements of staging, lighting and production on its events programme this year.
