Starwood's fourth quarter results show profit bounce back

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is celebrating a fourth quarter return to profit after net income rose to $339m (£209m), compared with a loss of $107m (£66m) in 2009.

Revenues for the latest quarter improved to $1.34bn (£0.84bn), from $1.25bn (£0.77bn) in the comparable period the previous year.

North America and Asia Pacific revenue per room increased 10.2% and 20.3%, respectively, in the quarter.

For the three months ending 31 March 2011, Starwood said it expects earnings per share (EPS) to be around $0.22 (£0.13) to $0.26 (£0.16) and income from continuing operations to be about $43m (£26.5m) to $51m (£31.4m).

For the full year 2011, the company anticipates EPS to be around $1.55 (£0.95) to $1.65 (£1.01).
