Pre-event planning The trip, organised by Pure Events, was a sales incentive event held for estate agent Marsh & Parsons to thank its 36 high-level staff for their work over the past year, in which the firm boasted a strong financial performance.
"The idea was to stage an event in autumn somewhere a bit warmer," says Pure managing director Charlotte Wilson. "Marsh wanted to bring its staff together and build in a high-octane activity that would require a level of concentration and give a sense of achievement. The team is very close-knit so they were excited to spend the time away together."
Pure suggested the principality of Monaco for the trip because of its proximity to England, warm climate and reputation for glamour.
Challenges The main challenge was to find a venue and a team-building activity near to Monaco centre that challenged staff and was enjoyable. The client was also keen to ensure that minimal time was wasted travelling during the trip, which lasted just under two days. There were also air traffic control strikes in France that threatened to cause disruption to flights.
Solution Kayaking was chosen for the team-building activity, taking place in a canyon near to Cap D'Azil and the Parc de la Grande Corniche. "We decided on kayaking in the canyon because it was only a 45-minute drive away, and would provide a challenge while allowing staff to take in the breathtaking scenery," says Wilson. The Marriott Riviera La Porte de Monaco, Cap d'Ail, was chosen as the accommodation venue based on its reputation and its location - a pleasant 15-minute walk from Monaco's harbour area.
Post-event analysis Marsh & Parsons sales director Liza Jane Kelly says: "We had a great time, as there was a good mixture of activities and leisure. Monaco was easy to get to from London and there was a wide selection of nightlife activities. The feedback has been very positive." Pure's Wilson says the event was among the most successful she has organised for the Marsh & Parsons team. "The visit had no particular business element planned into it because it was a way for staff to relax and enjoy themselves after a successful year."FACTFILE
