MPI teamed up with event evaluation firm Meeting Metrics to study the benefits and costs associated with attending the WEC in Vancouver last year.
The comprehensive study calculated ROI based on the total investment to attend the conference including: time away from work; airfare; registration; accommodation; food and transport.
The resulting financial impact on the events professionals’ business from lessons learned at the event was also recorded.
During WEC 2010, MPI offered delegates a two-day competency-building workshop highlighting the importance of ROI prior to the first days of the conference.
Following the conference, Meeting Metrics provided delegates with a confidential, post-event report that detailed the results of their experience including application of learning sessions to their current job, impacts of post-event job achievement and an individual ROI analysis.
MPI president Bruce MacMillan said: "Reports have indicated the importance of measuring ROI as a performance tool. "WEC 2010 in Vancouver delivered
measurable business results, and more importantly, we’ve shown that major conferences and events can deliver value if they make performance measurement a priority."
