Bainbridge and Corbin have been appointed from roles as finance director and business services director at Ashfield In2Focus, part of the contract sales and marketing services division of United Drug.

Meanwhile, Abbott was appointed to the newly-created role of UK country manager for Universal Procon in November, after joining the agency from Ashfield In2Focus.

United Drug acquisition

United Drug acquired World Events in December for an initial payment of £13.5m, to be followed by a further £2.7m over the next three years, based on profit targets.

United Drug is an Irish public company that provides event management solutions to the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.

It acquired Procon Conferences in 2007, and Universal Conference and Incentive Travel in 2008, forming Universal Procon.

Board members

World Events Group founder and chairman Graham Keene has stepped down following the acquisition, but all other members of the World Events Group board are remaining with the company.

Chief executive Martin Parry will report in to United Drug main board director Chris Corbin.

Strategic review

Parry said: "It is normal practice for United Drug, when it acquires businesses, to appoint some of its directors to those businesses. The key at the moment is for us to get through our strategic review, and we should have the outcome at the end of February."

The three-month review process aims to determine how the companies will best work together.

Events industry buyouts

The buyout followed Expotel’s acquisition of Venues Event Management in November.

Meanwhile, Capita Group bought BSI for £42.5m at the end of December.
