Edinburgh International Conference Centre confirms biomedical enquiries ahead of 2013 opening

Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), which this week laid the foundations for its £85m expansion, has told C&IT it has had firm interest from biomedical, environmental and animal health organisations ahead of its 2013 opening.

The £85m expansion, which includes a 2,000sqm multi-purpose main hall, will also feature new office space. Bookings for the venue will be taken from January next year.

EICC head of events Karen Wood said that International Associations concerned with bioscience, animal health and environmental protection will be amongst the first to occupy the expanded EICC.

"We have a number of firm enquiries from international association clients with events of around 3,000 delegates for 2013 onwards that will require exclusive use of the existing EICC and the new expansion space. The feedback from clients fully endorses our decision to invest in this new space and we are excited to be able to deliver some of the world’s more technologically advanced meeting facilities," she added.

The development, one of many in Scotland, is a partnership of City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Enterprise and Edinburgh International Conference Centre. It is sheduled for a Spring 2013 opening.
