Hackett co-founded The Travel Organisation in 1980 before rebranding the conference and incentive travel agency as The Marketing Organisation (TMO) in 1987.
TMO was sold to BI Worldwide in 2001, but Hackett remained within the business and will continue in his role as chairman now he has joined Quantum Leap Events.
Hackett said he had known Quantum Leap Events’ managing director Greg Lawson for many years and was "excited by his ambitions for the business".
"The collection of services Greg has brought together - catering; theming; production; and venue management – has enormous potential and he has built a superb management team," he said. "My role is to harness these resources and to help direct and accelerate growth."
Quantum Leap Events is parent to businesses including central London venue Battersea Evolution, caterers Smart Event Catering and Smart Hospitality, production firm Anagram Production Services and events business The Full Effect.
Lawson said: "David is a respected industry figure and I am excited by his decision to join Quantum. The next few years are about capitalising on our talent and delivering customer delight."
