Newcastle Gateshead showcases plans for new conference centre at roadshow

Newcastle Gateshead Convention Bureau descended on the UK capital this week with a roadshow involving 25 exhibitors.

Newcastle Gateshead took the opportunity to garner reaction to its plans to build an International Conference and Exhibition Centre (ICEC) for the region. City development company 1NG revealed initial plans and visual imagery to delegates.

Newcastle Gateshead Convention Bureau head of business tourism Jessica Roberts said: "1NG is working on a master-plan to develop a major site on Gateshead Quays, immediately adjacent to The Sage Gateshead. It’s a brilliant location and a new international conference and exhibition centre forms a central part of that plan. Work is ongoing to develop the vision for the area. We know there is demand for additional world class meeting and exhibition space and discussions are ongoing to make the vision a reality."

During the roadshow staged at the Royal Horticultural Halls & Conference Centre’s Lawrence Hall, venues including The Sage Gateshead, De Vere Slaley Hall, Langley Castle Hotel and Hotel du Vin showcased their offers to more than 225 event planners.
