Definitive Events managing director Lisa Pennington said the plan was to appoint a senior event manager in early 2011, followed by a business development director later in the year.

Further senior event manager, event managers and event executives would join the team in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics, she said.

"With the major sporting events coming to the UK over the next two years and our new account wins, we are looking to expand," said Pennington, who currently runs the Manchester-based agency with an event executive and the support of freelance staff.

The UEFA Champions League Final will come to Wembley Stadium in 2011, the Olympics are in London in 2012, while the Commonwealth Games is set to be held in Glasgow in 2014.

Definitive Events has this autumn launched a new sports division – Definitive Sport – to concentrate on that side of the business.

The division launched with a sponsor hospitality programme in Manchester at the weekend for one of Manchester United FC's sponsors.

120 guests from Asia and Europe joined for a three-day programme to celebrate the sponsor's 50th anniversary.
