British Airways has offered a fresh deal to the Unite union, which will potentially end the lengthy dispute between the airline and cabin crew.

Cabin crew have already carried out 22 days of walkouts this year, and there were fears of further action during the Christmas period.

The airline lost £164m in the three months to the end of June as a result of the strikes, and air space closure during the volcanic ash cloud.

ITM chief executive Paul Tilstone said: "The external perception of strikes, whether by BA cabin crew, or the current strikes in France, is that they are very damaging to the country as a whole.

"A deal would remove the uncertainty that travellers and those who are travel managers have."

BA strikes in May took place during Imex week, with airline Lufthansa adding 20% capacity to its flight schedule to ensure travellers reached the show.
