Westin hotel to open in Costa Rica in May 2011

Starwood Hotels & Resorts is returning to Costa Rica after 20 years with the opening of the Westin Playa Conchal Resort & Spa in May 2011.

The Westin Playa Conchal Resort & Spa, which features 604sqm of meeting and banqueting space, is now undergoing renovations to its 406 rooms and public areas.

Starwood and Desarrollos Hoteleros Guanagaste signed a management agreement to re-flag the Paradisus Playa Conchal Resort in Guanacaste, in the north west of Costa Rica, as a Westin hotel.

The opening is part of a drive for Starwood to expand its Westin brand in central and south America over the coming two years.

Other properties opening include:

  • Westin Libertador, Lima, Peru - May 2011
  • Westin Guadalajara, Mexico - June 2011
  • Westin Playa Bonita, Panama - October 2011
  • Westin Panama City, Costa del Este business district - September 2012

Starwood’s president of global development Simon Turner said: "We are delighted to once again establish a presence in Costa Rica with next year's opening. The Westin brand is at a pivotal point in its life cycle with an unprecedented opportunity for global growth."

Starwood Hotels & Resorts currently has six hotels open in central America including: the Four Points by Sheraton Colon, in Panama; Four Points by Sheraton Panama; Sheraton Panama Hotel & Convention Centre; Le Meridien Panama; the Sheraton Presidente San Salvador; and The Westin Camino Real in Guatemala.
