Speaking to C&IT at the rebrand party for Tourism Queensland at Circus, Covent Garden yesterday (12 October), the minister for tourism and fair trading said the days when British businesses would spend money ‘like Monopoly dollars’ are over.

"Business tourism is an important component for us, and we’re hoping there will be a boost when the Brisbane conference centre opens next year. Overall our tourism fell by 2% last year, but that’s compared to an average global fall of 4%," he added.

Lawlor also outlined his intention to attract more sporting incentive trips to Queensland. "Cricket could be a real pull for us, and its popularity is increasing in the UK," he commented.

Tourism Queensland’s event featured MICE buyers and media from around the UK. Guests were treated to performances from acrobats and a draw to win Aboriginal artwork.
