Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa has reported a 24% increase in profit, partly due to a rise in events linked to the Labour Party Conference, which took place at nearby Manchester Central.

The 338-bedroom hotel’s sales have increased 12% on last year and profits are up by 24%. Its day delegate rate (DDR) has also increased by 9% in the last six months, C&IT has learnt.

The venue has seen a growth in revenue per available room (RevPAR) of 11%, driven by an occupancy increase of 8%.

Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa sales manager Paul Hutton said: "The hotel’s success can be equated to its increasingly loyal corporate client base and a growing awareness of the hotel’s excellent meeting facilities within the region. This has resulted in a series of significant business wins including events in conjunction with the recent Labour Party Conference."

The figures are in contrast to a recent ‘City Review’ report, compiled by Christie & Co in partnership with STR Global, which found that Manchester’s hotel sector is currently operating in ‘difficult micro-economic conditions’.
