Members of Aberdeen City Council’s finance and resources committee have backed the investment following increased demand for its biennial Offshore Europe show.

The AECC will host Offshore Europe in September 2011 and plans to have a new temporary exhibition hall in place, next to the main exhibition space.

"This is fantastic news for Aberdeen and the surrounding area, particularly combined with the hugely increased bedroom space and the opening of quality hotels such as Malmaison, Hilton Garden Inn and the Rezidor Park Inn which will offer much more space for delegates," ACB manager Jacky Selway said.

Meanwhile, Alesia du Plessis, as its new conference support manager, has been hired to develop ACB's conference support services, tasked with delivering events, creating links with industry partners and growing the region’s market share for business tourism.

"My previous role was as a business relationship manager with VisitScotland, so I have gained a good knowledge about what the destination has to offer," she said.
