Event planners have spoken out in support of Incent India's efforts to defend India's battered reputation following worldwide condemnation of its preparations for the Commonwealth Games.

P.N Nageshwaran, chief executive of the Delhi-based DMC spoke exclusively to C&IT after working with UK representation agency Wowbean to deliver a successful familiarisation tour of India for UK agencies including Banks Sadler, supported by Taj and Oberoi hotels.

Grass Roots group supplier relations manager Alan Newton said: "The current Commonwealth issues should not shroud doubt around the ability of C&I operators in the country to deliver unique and professional programmes that will have delegates talking positively for years. India is one of the world's most imaginative incentive destinations, providing world class standards and facilities."

Noble Events Ltd managing director Penny Noble said: "As an enormously satisfied attendee of last weeks' familiarisation trip hosted by Nagesh and his team, I wholeheartedly support his view relating to Incent India's commitment to the C&I industry. It is true, we were exposed to some pretty tough examples of the abject poverty cited in the press in the last few days. However, we also experienced parts of India, including Delhi, that were truly remarkable. We have confirmed programmes to India for 2011, and I am convinced the decision to sell the destination was correct."
