The agency yesterday filed its annual accounts for 2009 at Companies House, which showed BCD M&I had an operating loss of £1.27m.

However, BCD M&I’s vice president finance EMEA Ian Wilson said the agency returned to profitability in March this year, and is anticipating it will outperform its 2008 figures, when it achieved profits of £467,000.

"As with any agency in the industry, we had to cope with a number of clients’ marketing budgets being reduced in 2009," Wilson told C&IT.

"We have also invested £900,000 in ensuring we are able to meet the needs of our fast growing global strategic meetings management client base. The 2009 loss was not entirely unexpected."

Wilson added he was "extremely confident" that the MICE and creative communications base was returning to strength.

"We are talking about taking on around another 20 people across Europe, to add to the 45 we have at the moment," said Wilson.
