York’s National Railway Museum is set to benefit from a £21m investment by 2013, while York Investors LLP has announced plans to open a £10m six-storey, 120-room hotel in the city centre.

The Spa in Scarborough is also set to complete a £6m refurbishment in April 2011. The venue is located on the seafront and has capacity for more than 1,600 delegates.

York and Scarborough Conferences marketing manager Laura Freer said: "Our year-long marketing campaign aims to shout loud and proud about what’s on offer to business visitors to the region and attract even more conference business into the area."

Scarborough Borough Council tourism manager Janet Deacon said: "The development at the Scarborough Spa will now allow us to really move forward with our plans to transform the venue into a multi-purpose entertainment, cultural and conference centre offering superb modern facilities and services.

York and Scarborough developments also include:

  • York’s Jorvik Centre re-opened in May following a £1m refurbishment
  • The Yorkshire Museum reopened on 1 August following a £2m refurbishment
  • A 6,500-seat open-air theatre opened in May in Scarborough
