Companies are spending more on events, with the average event booked through Conference Care up from £2,300 in 2009 to £2,800 in 2010.
The average daily delegate rate for the UK lags behind London on £43 for the year to 31 March. Deakin said the current UK daily delegate rate is £40, according to statistics based on the agency’s bookings.
"This is despite the increase in London, which indicates that the provinces are still finding it tough," he said. "The provinces were hit a lot harder than London so have to go further before they can show any kind of recovery. Rates have been slashed due to the lack of business and as venues compete hard to gain new business and retain existing business."
London’s 9% growth was significant, considering the tough economic climate but Deakin warned that it would stagnate because of cuts in government spending. "Cuts in public spending and the inevitability that there will be fewer events from this sector in future will slow the growth," he said.
