Financial statements filed at Companies House today show that the agency made a pre-tax loss of £1.9m last year, compared to a pre-tax profit of £76,788 in the nine months to September 30 2008.

It also filed an operating loss of £2m.

The agency’s turnover in the year to September 30 2009 was £22.7m. It turned over £13.7m in the nine months to 30 September 2008.

Universal Procon was unavailable for comment.

The report shows that Universal Procon had the "exceptional cost" of £2.1m spent on restructuring.

"During the year, a decision was made to restructure the activities of the company," the report said. "The costs represent reorganization expenses, redundancy and lease provision costs arising from this restructure."

Universal Procon’s UK office was moved from Slough to Ashby-de-la Zouch to the site of parent company United Drug’s contract sales and marketing services operation last year. It joined sister companies Ashfieldin2focus and Business Edge.

The agency made five redundancies as part of the restructure.
