The scheme is being supported by Lancashire & Blackpool Conferences & Meetings, a joint initiative between Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) and Visit Blackpool that will offer support in bidding for conferences, finding venues, booking accommodation and hosting fam visits.

Michelin-starred restaurant Northcote joint proprietor Craig Bancroft was the first ambassador to sign up to the scheme.

"Lancashire and Blackpool has some truly fantastic and unique venues that can offer marvellous experiences for business travellers, and that's the message we are going to take with us wherever we go," he said.

LBTB chief executive Mike Wilkinson said: "The process of bidding for conferences and events requires time, planning and resources. This is where we come in, by offering ambassadors a full support service that includes completing bidding documents, preparing presentations, hosting fam visits and sourcing appropriate venues and hotels."
