The event was staged at the Birmingham venues with a 15-day lead-time and it attracted more than 400 Vauxhall dealers from throughout the UK to view the new Meriva model.

Agency BI suggested the ICC, Birmingham as an alternative venue after Vauxhall decided that airspace closure caused by the volcanic ash would prevent delegates reaching Hamburg.

ICC Birmingham's Hall 1 was used for main presentations, and Hall 3 featured an exhibition of 30 cars during the day and was converted into a gala dinner venue in the evening.

General Motors UK & Ireland, programmes and events manager Graham Page said: Although we were disappointed that our original conference in Hamburg was cancelled, we were delighted when BI confirmed it could deliver the logistical elements for the event in two weeks."
