Speaking at the show at Messe Frankfurt, Imex group chairman Ray Bloom said: "Since we launched in Vegas last October feedback has been extremely positive."

The show was originally planned to be around one third of the size of the Frankfurt show, but Bloom said it is "likely to be a little larger than that".

Of the countries exhibiting at Imex this week, "many or most have indicated they will be there" he added.

Imex America plans to have 2,000 hosted buyers, of which 80% will come from North America, with more than 20,000 appointments being made.

The event, which launches at the Sands Expo Las Vegas on 11 October 2011, is also hoped to attract thousands of non-hosted buyers, Bloom said.

Maritz Travel is also set to host a major customer event around the show, Bloom added.

Bruce MacMillan, chief executive of strategic partners MPI, also announced plans to send out webinars in autumn to buyers who are already set to come to the show.

Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) named Imex America as its latest Alliance Partner earlier this month.
