London’s Sheraton Park Tower has redesigned three of its main meeting spaces in partnership with the Scientific Exploration Society. Focused on a theme of science and exploration, the three rooms aim to offer delegates a creative environment for business meetings. Each is fitted with objects and images drawn from the collections of the Scientific Exploration Society. They include the Prow of boat from Kota Mama Expedition across South America and a sample Cave Painting from El Colmillo in Southern Chile. Sheraton Park Tower hotel manager Anne Scott said: "We hope the new meeting environment will stimulate inspiration and create a climate which will inspire delegates to be bold and adventurous in their thinking"

London Sheraton Park Tower takes bookings for 2012

London’s Sheraton Park Tower took three group bookings just two days after announcing its special rates for 2012. The bookings are from the London HQs of international companies for five-night packages. General manager Anne Scott said that London’s Olympic status would generate a lot of interest. "Winning the bid had added a gloss that makes London more attractive to visitors," she said. Rates are £201.20, per person per night or £2,012 per room for five nights. London currently has around 100,000 hotel rooms, with an additional 9,700 hotel rooms due to open by 2012.

Business up by 500% at Alton Towers’ centre

Alton Towers has dramatically increased its conference business following the first year’s operations of its new conference centre and hotel. The centre has boosted conference trade from 4,800 bedroom bookings to 25,000. Conferences have been held by Friends Provident, BMW, Ernst & Young, Goodyear, and Burns Anderson. Corporate sales and marketing manager Helen Johnson said the firm had undertaken online customer research which had helped it introduce operational changes that improved flexibility. "Detailed on-site research has provided a useful insight into delegates’ needs," she said. Ian Parkinson, formerly of Millennium and Hilton groups, has been appointed general manager of the centre’s 216-room hotel, Splash Landings.
