Twickenham Stadium has announced conference and event sales of £3.2m for the year to date 2009/10, despite tough trading conditions.
The figure represents a 320% increase on 2007/8 conference and event sales. Last year (2008/9), the group announced a growth of £1.2m to £2.2m.
The group attributes the uplift to the opening of Rubgy House, the stadium's new conference and event facility, and an influx of business looking to capitalise on the new South Stand development, which provides an additional 5,000sqm of event space and a four-star hotel, the London Marriott Twickenham.
"Our objective has been to target high production led-events away from traditional standalone conference and event venues and it's working," said Chris Morris, managing director of Twickenham Experience.
"We are now seeing a considerable amount of repeat business, which is a ringing endorsement of our new facilities, as well as our continued investment in our people and service."
