Glasgow wins immunology event
, 22 September 2006
Glasgow has beaten off competition from Istanbul and Prague to win the 5,000 delegate European Congress on Immunology (ECI). The event will be held in 2012 at the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC) and will be worth £9 million to the local economy. Glasgow will also host the British Society of Immunology (BSI) annual meetings in 2007 and 2008. Glasgow City Marketing Bureau’s (GCMG) Ambassador Programme enlisted Professor Eddie Liew of the Glasgow Biomedical Research Centre, University of Glasgow, to front the bid, which was presented in Paris. GCMG convention bureau staff then helped prepare the bid document and arranged site visits. The win follows three recent convention wins for Glasgow: the World Hydrogen Technologies Convention in 2011 at the SECC; the European Academy of Forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde in 2009, and the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology at the SECC in 2011.
