Malta's parliamentary secretary for tourism Mario de Marco said he was optimistic the island's conference and incentive business would soon recover after a challenging period.
Welcoming UK buyers to the Malta Forum today, De Marco told delegates: "The MICE business has had a hard time this year and will probably have a hard time for the first few months of next year.
"But we seem to be seeing an end to the recession. The economy is stabilising and things are looking more optimistic."
The four-day event, hosted by Malta Tourism Authority, Air Malta, Onsite Malta and Moulden Marketing, has attracted 48 event planners, and includes a workshop with eight overseas and 20 Malta-based suppliers, a 4x4 tour of Gozo and a gala dinner.
Suppliers attending the event include the Grand Hotel Excelsior, Le Meridien St Julians and OM Destination Management.
