The 15 event industry associations that met at the inaugural Event Industry Association Summit have determined to create a cross-association working party to lobby government.
Confex Group portfolio director Duncan Reid said the working party would lobby the Government to improve policy related to events at both local and national levels.
Summit delegates also agreed to create an industry-wide continued professional development programme, and to have a strategy in place for it by January.
The associations also decided to create a shared calendar of events that will be posted on the Business Visits & Events Partnership website.
The summit was held at Macdonald Burlington in Birmingham yesterday.
"The best thing about the summit was that we managed to get so many associations together, talking and brainstorming initiatives that will be rolled out in coming months," said Reid.
The summit was attended by:
- Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO)
- Association for Conferences and Events (ACE)
- Association for Events Management Education (AEME)
- Association of Event Organisers (AEO)
- Association of Event Venues (AEV)
- Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP)
- Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA)
- Eventia
- Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA)
- International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA)
- International Special Events Society (ISES)
- Meetings Industry Association (MIA)
- Meeting Professionals International (MPI)
- National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA)
- Society of Incentive Travel Executives Great Britain (SITE)
