Delegates warned to increase sustainability or lose business, staff and events

Companies not operating sustainably are set to lose business and staff and see their event programmes cut, this morning C&IT Corporate Forum has been told.

Lloyds TSB head of sustainable development Paul Turner was challenged by delegates as to the levels of interest in incorporating sustainable practices from senior staff and the costs involved.

"If you are not being challenged on this now, then you should expect to be in the near future and that will increasingly be the case," Turner responded.

Turner went on to state that long-term, companies will lose out on new talent, as young people joining the industry choose other firms with stronger credentials and that similarly, business contracts would increasingly go to companies with sound environmental credentials.

Presenting alongside Fiona Pelham from event agency Organise This, Turner added that in the current economic environment corporates and agencies needed to save money and justify their existence. "You need to find ways to be relevant and a sustainable approach is one way of doing that," he said.
