South Africa approves World Cup accommodation prices

South Africa's minister of tourism Marthinus van Schalkwyk said the majority of accommodation establishments are acting responsibly. Half of all establishments will not be charging any premiums during the event while 74% of those that have raised prices are charging premiums of less than 50% above their peak rates, an investigation has revealed.

Security measures for the event include more than 30,000 police officers being recruited and trained specifically for strategic deployment during the tournament.
 
Interpol will also mount the biggest-ever joint intelligence-gathering operation during the World Cup to ensure it avoids major security threats.
